We inherited the garden with a lot of established plantings, which go extremely well with the native plants I have added. These flowers and plants are quite beautiful and colorful in their own right, and deserve at least a visual presence on the cape cod woodland blog. It does not make sense to be a purist when it comes to native plant gardens – humans have dug into the soil and altered the landscape for at least 20,000 years. I can’t bring back the giant sloth and mammoth either. The owners before me had a great aesthetic, and while the plantings are of a commercial and non-native nature, they are very much a part of the character of this place.
