Just yesterday there was the euphoria of seeing the twinleaf bloom in my yard, for the fist time. I only had a few minutes, as I had come home later than usual and the light was fleeting fast. The pictures could be taken tomorrow, I thought. Alas, it is not to be. The twinleaf is now flower-less, or at least petal-less. I had heard that the flowers were particularly delicate, but I did not realize how much of an understatement that is. We had some severe downpours during the day and there they stand, like once proud kings without their crown. The white petals are strewn around on the soil. Maybe there will be more, although twinleaf tends to send up only one flowered stem. Another native plant site had the rather witty comment of “being careful not to sneeze around this plant”! Ha!
Luckily the leaves are pretty to look at, and they are fairly hardy – I trust they will be around until fall.
“They” are right: Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today!
